SOUTH SHORE ROTARY CLUB PRESENTS
JOHN DRESSLER SCHOLARSHIP
TO TWO-TIME CANCER SURVIVOR
Rosemarie Dressler, president of the South Shore Rotary Club, presented at a recent meeting their John Dressler Scholarship Award to Brianna Bove, a two time cancer survivor, to support her academic studies at Wagner College.
Brianna, 20 yrs old, received numerous chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries along with a bone marrow transplant from her sister on her second battle with cancer which led her to remission.
“I am studying to achieve my dream of becoming first an oncology nurse and then one day becoming a nurse practitioner,” said the Wagner College senior. “I knew my cancer would lead me into something positive in life which happens to be my future career.”
Funds raised for the South Shore Rotary John Dressler Scholarship Fund support students with cancer continue their education during and after treatment.
The scholarship was established nine years ago in memory of Eltingville resident John Dressler who lost his battle with appendix cancer after a 15 month battle at age 21.
“While this scholarship is named in my son’s memory, “ said Rosemarie Dressler, “it is inspired by the doctors, nurses and health care professionals who demonstrated that they have a certain something extra that makes their care special. They stood out among a pool of professionals who dedicate their lives to helping others. As it turns out they are special because they, too, experienced cancer.”
